Outreach Programs - SSTRIDE
SSTRIDE:
Science Students Together Reaching Instructional Diversity &
Excellence
SSTRIDE is an outreach effort of the FSU College of Medicine with
support from Florida's Area Health Education Centers. The program
consists of pre-college and college components. The pre-college
component is open to students from designates Florida middle and
high schools. Pre-college SSTRIDE includes:
- In-school elective science course for middle school students
- FCAT preparation
- Enrichment and hands-on activities
- Educational field trips/career shadowing
- SAT preparation
- Individualized tutoring and assessment
- Organized subject review sessions
- Computer/Internet access
- Mentoring by FSU and FAMU students
- Parent support meetings
The undergraduate component is open to students from Florida
State University, Florida A&M University and Tallahassee
Community College. Undergraduate SSTRIDE includes:
- Tutorial Learning Center/Mentoring Program
- Study skills and time management
- Pre-professional advisement
- Interviewing workshops
- MCAT preparation
- Networking opportunities among students and staff
- Medical Assisting Program with Lively Technical Center
- Physician Partnership Program (clinical volunteer
opportunities)
- Multicultural Association of Pre-Medical
